Culture Day in Gort Community School on November 12th, made famous by the recently retired Ms. Neylon,  came alive with the sights, sounds and flavours of over 20 countries, transforming the school assembly area into a vibrant celebration of global heritage. This much-anticipated annual school event offered our students and staff a unique opportunity to experience the diversity and richness of cultures represented within our school community.

Throughout the day, each country’s display featured an array of traditional sweet and savoury dishes, carefully prepared by students and their families for our 1st year student to sample and experience. From the spices of India to the delicate sweetness of French pastries, every dish highlighted a unique piece of cultural history. The food not only delighted taste buds but also served as a powerful reminder of how sharing a meal can build connections and understanding.

Students proudly wore traditional attire, giving the event a colourful, festive atmosphere. As visitors moved from table to table, they had a chance to learn about the stories, languages, and customs that make up our diverse student body.

Gort Community School prides itself on its inclusive ethos and Culture Day is not only a celebration of our students’ backgrounds but also a testament to the welcoming spirit at the heart of GCS. This day fostered understanding, appreciation and friendships across cultures and values we hold close as a school community.

Thank you to all who helped make Culture Day a memorable event, especially to the families who contributed their time, recipes, and passion. It’s days like these that remind us how much we gain from learning about each other and celebrating our unique, shared community.
