As Principal of Gort Community School, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our school website.

The website will provide you with information on our school life, activities and policies. I would also encourage you to check out our Facebook, Instagram and twitter accounts for regular updates on life in our school.

In Gort Community School, we aim to provide a comprehensive post-primary education open to all the community. The school is a Christian community which endeavours to be a happy and caring place, striving to develop the academic, aesthetic, spiritual, physical and moral potential of each student.

We believe in a rounded education whereby students are taught life-long skills and we endeavour to ensure that students who join our school will discover a happy, positive and caring environment where they will develop and flourish. We are committed to creating an atmosphere of excellence in learning and challenging our pupils to reach their full potential. We offer a progressive and diverse academic curriculum as well as an extensive range of extra-curricular activities, promoting the holistic development of our students.

Our Senior Management Team aim to maintain the extremely high standards of Gort Community School, and to ensure that the students under our care continue to reach their full potential. We are very proud of our high academic record and all our past pupils’ achievements and accomplishments. I believe it is important to have a balanced education. We strive for high results and have high expectations of our students, but we also value the benefits of being involved in sport and extra-curricular activities.

For the first time in school history, we have over 1000 pupils in our school and we are delighted to announce that we have been granted planning permission for our new major extension, 5500m2, here in Gort Community School. We have a projected enrolment of 1200 pupils and this new building will be a significant addition to the educational experience provided to our students here in our school and the community.

We have completed Phase I of our building project with an addition of 6 classrooms, toilet block, locker area, 2 Science Labs/prep area and a new Technology room. The new major extension will consist of 41 new rooms including: 19 General classrooms, 9 meeting rooms, 1 DP Office, 3 Classroom SEN base, Art Room, Home Economics room, 1 Graphics room, 3 Science labs/2 Prep area, Construction Studies /Prep area, Engineering room, Tech Prep room, 3 x Project store, New Staff room, GP/Dining area along with alterations to existing building and fitness suite. We have put a significant amount of time and effort into these projects and we are very focused on delivering this. The new extension will future proof the school and will be both a major asset and a fantastic addition for our staff, students and the community.

Our Motto “Ní neart go cur le chéile” really captures what is at the heart of Gort Community School, strength in a common purpose. Gort Community School is about being a team, being part of the community, working together, having common goals and striving to achieve the best possible education for each and every student that comes through our doors.

I look forward to working with all of our stakeholders in the years ahead, striving for high standards in our school and building for the future.

Yours in Education,
