On Culture Day, Gort Community School comes alive with the sights, sounds and flavours of over 20 countries, transforming the school assembly area into a vibrant celebration of global heritage each year.

This much-anticipated annual school event offers our students and staff a unique opportunity to experience the diversity and richness of cultures represented within our school community.

Throughout the day, each country has the opportunity to display and feature an array of traditional sweet and savoury dishes, carefully prepared by students and their families for our 1st year students to sample and experience. From the spices of India to the delicate sweetness of French pastries, every dish highlights a unique piece of cultural history. The food not only delights taste buds but also serves as a powerful reminder of how sharing a meal can build connections and understanding.

Students proudly wear traditional attire, giving the event a colourful, festive atmosphere. Visitors can move from table to table and they have a chance to learn about the stories, languages, and customs that make up our diverse student body.

Gort Community School prides itself on its inclusive ethos and Culture Day is not only a celebration of our students’ backgrounds but also a testament to the welcoming spirit at the heart of GCS. This day fosters understanding, appreciation and friendships across cultures and values we hold close as a school community.

We appreciate and would like to thank all our students and staff who help make Culture Day such a memorable event and particularly to the families who contribute their time, recipes, and passion. It’s days like these that remind us how much we gain from learning about each other and celebrating our unique, shared community.
