CONSTRUCTION STUDIES

Assessment and Content

Construction Studies is a Senior Cycle Leaving Certificate course. 

Junior Certificate courses which relate most are, Woodwork, all Technology subjects and Art.

There are three elements to the course;

  • Theory– consisting of building/ draughting details and general building knowledge.
    Assessed by a three hour written and drawing examination at end of L.C.year.
    50% of course marks are allocated here at higher level.
  • Practical– A four hour woodwork exam undertaken in early May of L.C. year.
    This accounts for 25% of course marks.
  • Project– A piece of furniture and portfolio are produced during the two year course.

Scientific, architectural and heritage based projects can also be undertaken.
The remaining 25% of the course is awarded here.
